my life in a box

I'm nursing a tummy upset and I'd love to sleep but think I had too much caffeine today so this is probably as good a time as any for some kind of update.

Ok as soon as I typed this I realised there really isn't anything to update on. I went to South Africa; you can see the pictures below. I decided not to go for the countdown with Paul and the rest cos I felt too old and lazy to be getting myself stuck in a 2-hour jam and then squeezing past 500,000 people to watch some fireworks for 2 minutes. And I got suan-ed by my mum for being dateless on NYE. Wa lau. I better spend Valentine's Day in the library or something.

I don't really get the fuss though. New Year's Day is just the first day of the year! Nothing important actually happened that day, beyond the fact that some wise guy decided to label it such. And I suppose when I start working I'll appreciate it just because it's a public holiday. But since it always falls during my school holidays anyway I just don't see the point in celebrating.

At least on Chinese New Year some villagers somewhere supposedly defeated a scary monster by wearing red and lighting firecrackers. And I love all these stupid stories and superstitions. And the snacks. And the fact that no one can scold you.

This sounds stupid, but I love my friends. I love the old ones who just know what you're thinking, even before you're aware that your thinking it. I love the new ones you can just click with somehow, whose jokes you can't help but laugh at even though they're not even funny, and vice versa.

Ok this has been an awfully long tangent that turned into a full post. That's why I can't be a novelist, Lun. I suck at narrating.
