So I'm back in town. It's a strange feeling actually, 9 months is not that long, but then again it is long enough. Long enough to have a baby, actually, and long enough to make a life and a home.
Last days in Montreal were nice, spent with great friends and hosting a very patient guest who put up with a lot of bad planning and cheap-skateness. Didn't manage to see the whales in the end, decided C$200 and 2 days for the
possibility of seeing, as Alex so eloquently put it, "some fish's ass" was a little steep. But did go to Ottawa for the Tulip Festival and to get on CBC News as a blip behind a demonstration in front of Parliament, and Cirque du Soleil's
Kooza of course. And then St Elizabeth and St Sulpice, planting trees on Mont Royal, swing dancing, a last Sunday at St Patrick's and the
tam tams in the park, and then Aéroport Pierre Trudeau, byebye Montreal, hello Frankfurt, byebye Frankfurt, hello Singapore.
I will wait til I get my cable to upload photos so I can do Frankfurt justice. But for now, I have to mention that I was blessed with an incredible host, who helped me have a great time despite being a jetlagged, smelly, cranky emotional mess (me, not him), and also stopped me from freaking out when stupid Air Canada refused to check my luggage through to Singapore so that I had to re-check it in Frankfurt which had a lower luggage limit and charged 40Euros per kg amounting to a total of 1400Euros in excess baggage (eventually I left it behind and he's sending it to me later).
It was pretty hard getting back here; I'd received various letters and parting gifts, and stupidly decided to read them on my way back. Getting teary-eyed in a cramped plane is very unglam, especially when your eyes were already puffy from lack of sleep. I had never expected to make so many good friends in my short time there, but I really did meet some amazing people there.
I am happy to be back though. It is always nice to be home. My dad bought durian back for me last night, and I'm coming up with a list of stuff I absolutely must eat again! Purvis St beef kway teow, Thomson prata, Balestier bak kut teh, East Coast chilli crab, Crystal Jade, Katong laksa, Newton or lua, Killiney kaya toast.
