my life in a box

So today is the 4th Sunday of Easter, otherwise known as Good Shepherd Sunday. Basically the idea is that Jesus is our Good Shepherd, because he cares for his sheep and lays down his life for them, and we were called to pray for our religious leaders, that they'll emulate him in being good shepherds of our community. And interestingly, we just had Polling Day, where we technically (if you stay in a contested ward) get to choose the "shepherds" of this Singaporean flock for the next 5 years. And I started to think about how important it was to have leaders that not only cared about winning the elections but also cared about the people's needs, and I really wonder how many of our parliamentarians (elected or otherwise) actually fit the bill. Pardon the bimbotic analogy but I realise that voting is actually a little like choosing a husband - we always tend to get bowled over by the fancy credentials and the moolah, but at the end of the day what is important is to find someone who cares for you, because there is really nothing to prevent the rich successful asshole from stealing all your money and spending it on his Batam mistress (another not-so-elegant analogy) if he just doesn't give a damn.
